Centurylink says this numbers system is designed to enable them to provide quality service to the customer. We will be elaborating on this program in a future post but for now we will explain briefly why this is flawed. Unless you work in an area where the outside plant (Buried Cable) is in great condition and you never have to run new wire inside a house these numbers are next to impossible to meet. Yes, management has found ways to fudge them to keep heat off themselves. But local managers have little control anymore. When they company took away their ability to discount certain jobs and repeats it really screwed them. So when a technician installs service and a customer disconnects the modem and cant figure out how to connect it all again and calls in for a tech that repeat is valid and counts against the technician. Or when you fix a drop that was cut when someone was digging and 3 days later its cut again that repeat is valid. The numbers system does not work in this line of work. A more detailed post will come soon. This numbers system is only used against company employed techs and its used to terminate people to thin the workforce. When they can get rid of the employees they can hire contractors.
