Communications Workers of America Local 3176(A) has worked hard to increase the 1.5%, 1.5%, 1.5% raise. This raise is below the current increase in cost of living and inflation. This raise is not acceptable given the amount of money the company has made in profit and what we are paying our CEO who has been in his position for only one year. Centurylink’s response during bargaining was “We aren’t saying we don’t have the money; but you’re not getting more.”
Centurylink hems and haws at the bargaining table keeping its own workers from achieving the American dream while hiring contractors left and right and continues to refuse to bring serious proposals to the table that invest in its employees and being good jobs with a future with the company.
CWA Local 3176 President Greg Douglas said “The fight for a fair contract is about more than just our co-workers; its about fighting a system that’s been rigged against employees for far too long.”
Centurylink called Winter Park employees “at-will” from the start because for many years they were not represented by a union and had no voice in what was given to them in regards to benefits, compensation, working conditions, Sunday pay, pension being frozen, night shift differential, STI pay, and numerous other conditions and benefits that represented employees had access to.
Workers could strike! They could walk off the job. They could all get sick (numerous bugs going around right now.) They could decide to vote yes on the contract. Or maybe they will vote no. No one knows what actions will be coming in the near future.
